5 Lessons Learned From UFC Fight Night 51
5. Jessica Andrade Is Suddenly In the Title Picture - Whether She Wants To Be Or Not
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uZ5brFhkt3MJessica Andrade picked up her third straight UFC win at UFC Fight Night 51, and three is the magic number in certain UFC divisions, women's bantamweight being one of them (flyweight, heavyweight and light heavyweight are some of the others). A three fight win streak puts you in title contention, mainly because champion Ronda Rousey knocks off title challengers as quickly as the UFC can produce them.
In other divisions, this is problematic, but because the women's division is so new, and still growing, it's acceptable. On top of that, Rousey's fights are exciting enough that they'll draw even without "name" opponents.
That said, you can add Andrade to the list - though she doesn't necessarily want to be there yet.
Rousey actually attended Fight Night 51 for some promotional duties, and apparently took a break to watch Andrade's fight. There has been some suggestion that she was scouting the fighter as a potential future opponent. Andrade appreciates that Rousey stopped to watch her, but has gone on record saying that she is a year and a half to two years away from being ready for a title shot.
However, should the UFC offer her a title shot, she'd be wise to take it. Letting an opportunity like that slip by could be a career killer.
