5. Somehow Losing To Travis Browne After Essentially Having Him Finished
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5G0HYU8VksI Some may be surprised that this loss isnt ranked higher. When you look at it now, Overeem doesnt look as bad as he did at the time. Browne did lose to Fabricio Werdum decisively through all five rounds last April. That doesnt take away what he did after this fight by knocking out Josh Barnett in one minute. Browne is still looked at as one of the most lethal heavyweights in the division. There arent many heavyweights that are as diverse in the striking department than him. Overeem was in control by landed his signature knees to the body inside the clinch. His control of Browne against the cage was also extremely impressive. In the end, he gassed himself out from going for the knockout and having no respect for his opponent. Browne threw the same front kick on three occasions.. Then he finally connected right on Overeems chin and another shocking loss was added to his resume. This was a gratifying moment, although it wasnt as significant when you look back on it. Sure he was put in a potential loser leaves town bout against Frank Mir. We new saw that come to fruition with Mir still being on the roster. The loss certainly diminished his stock to a degree. It still wasnt as crippling as several other moments during his now three-year stint in the UFC.
