4. Being Knocked Out By Ben Rothwell Despite Being A 3 To 1 Favorite
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TGJQGbLjTCI It was considered to be another lopsided fight in his favor. Ben Rothwell was coming off a year-long layoff following a failed drug test from his win over Brandon Vera. While hes relatively durable and has heavy hands, Rothwell tends to gas out easily and struggles against explosive heavyweights. This was supposed to be Overeems coming out party from his first training camp at Greg Jacksons camp. His weight was lower than it ever has been in his UFC career. There was a mild amount of buzz to see The Demolition Man look like his old self. Similar to his past losses, he got off to a good start and was on the offensive. He landed some sharp kicks and had Rothwell on the defensive. Then he was tagged by a counter left hook and wobbled a bit. A one-sided beating prediction that most picked in favor of Overeem wasnt going to come to fruition. Once he was wobbled, he never looked comfortable again. Eventually the fight was at a much slower pace and Rothwell landed a straight right into Overeems ear. That clearly affected his equilibrium, as he never recovered from the punch. It was another colossal disappointment for him. People wanted to believe that Greg Jackson is the man to fix his flaws. Its hard to fix flaws, when your susceptible to not being able to respond to well from taking punishment. This loss began the talk of him possibly being the biggest bust in UFC history. There are still far more significant moments.
