5 Most Significant Moments When Alistair Overeem Hurt UFC

3. Injuring Jon Jones Before His Title Defense Against Daniel Cormier

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3d00GonnROU After blowing opportunities to fight for the title in 2012 and 2013, it didn€™t seem likely that Overeem could potentially ruin a massive main event on pay-per-view. His failed drug test ruined the much-anticipated bout against Junior Dos Santos at UFC 146. His loss to Antonio Silva cost him the opportunity to fight Cain Velasquez for the title as well. It would be a long journey back for Overeem, if he were to fight for the title. Meanwhile he had just joined Greg Jackson€™ camp in what seemed to be a wise move. It was the perfect gym to help improve his cardio and defending himself better. His upcoming fight against Ben Rothwell was a few weeks before Jon Jones was facing Daniel Cormier at UFC 178. They were training each other and it was well-documented on what had occurred. Jones injured his ankle and Overeem was the main culprit from the incident. The likes of Andrei Arlovski and Anthony Johnson have spoken openly about him being careless in the gym. This incident further deteriorated his already shaky reputation. That led to Dana White sharing his thoughts about the situation and making valid points. There are rants from Dana White that make you roll your eyes. He couldn€™t have been more spot on, considering Overeem€™s style. While both fighters aren€™t far off from weight, Overeem is a tall rangy striker. How does wrestling with Overeem help in training for a five foot ten Daniel Cormier is beyond me. Greg Jackson is one of the most respectable coaches out there. I€™m just puzzled on what he saw in Jones wrestling with Overeem that would help for his preparation against Cormier.
