Fellow compatriot Ashley Young had already thwacked his effort against the bar and if England failed to find the back of the net, a goal for Italy from their next strike would send them through. And that's exactly what happened as Cole shot his effort tamely at the goalkeeper who dived correctly to his left hand side. There was no power, no placement, and no progression in the Euro's for England as they were dumped out on penalties
