5 Premier League Players Who Should Return To Former Clubs

3. Joleon Lescott

lescott 4 Joleon Lescott played a major role as Manchester City won the Premier League for the first time in 2012, but last season he lost his place in the team. Departing manager Roberto Mancini seemed to lose faith in him. The introduction of new manager Manuel Pellegrini will give the England defender fresh hope of worming his way back into the team but he is unlikely to dislodge Vincent Kompany or Matija Nastasic. Lescott needs to be playing regularly, especially in a World Cup year. With the retirements of John Terry and Rio Ferdinand, the England centre-back positions are well and truly up for grabs. If Lescott is playing regularly, there is a very good chance he will be one of those two first-choice centre-backs if England make it to Brazil. Phil Jones seems to be playing everywhere except centre-back, Chris Smalling is fourth choice centre-back at Manchester United so it appears to be a straight fight between Gary Cahill and Joleon Lescott for that slot. Phil Jagielka seems to be Roy Hodgson€™s first choice centre-back. So if Joleon Lescott was to return to Everton and partner Jagielka then that would drastically enhance his England chances. It would be a good deal for Lescott and Everton. Sylvain Distin is 36 this year and John Heitinga was poor last season so Everton will be keen to reinforce in that area. A problem with that transfer could be Manchester City€™s lack of centre-backs. After letting Kolo Toure go on a free, they only have Kompany, Nastasic and Lescott left. City would have to buy before they could let Lescott go.
