5 Premier League Players Who Should Return To Former Clubs

2. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

chamberlain I think Chamberlain€™s inclusion on this list will come as the most surprising. The winger signed a new long-term contract as recently as last December so it€™s obvious Arsenal won€™t be selling him anytime soon. But I think a loan move to former club Southampton would be perfect for him. In his debut season at Arsenal, Chamberlain impressed everyone with an imperious performance against AC Milan in the Champions League. In an interview with the Daily Mirror, Marco Van Basten described him as a €˜gem€™. But this season he hasn€™t kicked on as many would have hoped. Throughout the season Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has preferred Gervinho, Lukas Podolski, Theo Walcott, Santi Cazorla and Aaron Ramsey to Chamberlain. A loan move to Southampton would be ideal. When Chamberlain left Southampton they were in League One, now they€™re in the Premier League. Regular Premier League football is what he needs. He knows the place as he grew up there and Southampton play a in a very similar style to Arsenal. Southampton don€™t really have any great width excluding Jason Puncheon, and striker Jay Rodriguez was often asked to play out wide; so the move would benefit the Saints also. The move would also benefit Roy Hodgson who seems to be a big admirer of Chamberlain and would love to see him play regular first-team football in a World Cup year.
