5 Reasons Arsenal Should Aim For Premier League Glory Rather Than The Champions League
2. They Are Still Top Of The Premier League
Despite having a bad week both at home and abroad, the Gunners do still sit at the top of the pile in the Premier League, and have played all but one of their main contenders for the title this season. They have lost twice against the two Manchester clubs and won twice against Liverpool and Tottenham, and Chelsea are the last remaining side they have to play. The Blues travel across London on Monday, in a game that becomes vitally important for the Gunners considering Chelsea lost at Sunderland in the League Cup on Tuesday evening, in a game where they were also forced to play extra time. Despite having a big squad, this could mean that the Gunners have the upper hand, and with Chelsea's erratic form of late, Wenger has the chance to stamp his authority on the league with a victory over the Blues. A result against Jose Mourinho's side would take them five points clear of the title challengers, and with Liverpool having a home game against Cardiff City at the weekend, the Gunners could find themselves needing to regain top spot by the time Monday comes round. The Gunners need a win against Chelsea then, a result that hasn't happened at the Emirates Stadium since 2010, and would also give Wenger his first ever victory over his Portuguese counterpart.
