5. Defensive Sleepiness

Kaka scored Milan's first goal on Tuesday. An unmarked header from a corner whilst inside the 6 yard box. There were 7 of Celtic's 11 inside the 6 yard box but Kaka still managed to stand still and let the ball bounce of his head and into the bottom corner. I sympathise a little, it was a gorgeous delivery and the ball seemed almost magnetised onto Kaka's forehead but Van Dijk has completely misjudged the flight of the ball, Sameras hasn't anticipated the cross creeping into his 'zone' and Forster should be punching anything inside the 6 yard box really. Celtic's goals conceded were poor this year. If Messi runs rings around 6 players and scores 4 goals you hold your hands up and admit defeat but all 5 of Milan's goals were preventable! Other than the goals I think our defence performed admirably. I've heard countless complaints about not replacing the spine of the Celtic team but Virgil Van Dijk seems to be a far superior player to Kelvin Wilson, and Efe 'Bomb Scare' Ambrose has matured significantly this season. Although an improvement is needed for next season I believe the pieces are all there. With big Forster, Lustig (who has been immense), Ambrose, Van Dijk and Izaguirre Celtic certainly have a Champions league level defence, we just need to iron out those breaks in concentration and maintain the perfect organisation which was so successful last year.
