5 Reasons Newcastle Must Sell Papiss Cisse (And 5 Why They Shouldn't)

3. If The Magpies Are Willing To Splash The Cash Then They Could Get An "Upgrade" On Cisse

In terms of his goals-per-minute ratio from last season, Cisse will take some beating - but some of the strikers the Magpies are looking at could certainly be, in some ways, described as "upgrades" on the Senegalese forward. Anderlecht's Aleksandar Mitrovic, Queens Park Rangers' Charlie Austin and Wolfsburg's Bas Dost are not only younger than Cisse, they are also just as prolific. If Steve McClaren wants to mould his attack around a striker who could become his side's focal point for the next five years, then splashing £10 million-£15 million on one of those three forwards this summer could prove extremely cost effective in the long run. What's more, should Newcastle be able to convince a side to pay £10 million for Cisse then the net cost of signing a younger, proven goalscorer would be even less. In fact, should the Magpies manage that, then they'd surely be in with a shout of doing the Premier League's transfer business of the summer.
