5 Reasons Newcastle Must Sell Papiss Cisse (And 5 Why They Shouldn't)
2. Aside From His Goals, Cisse Contributes Very Little To The Newcastle Side
When Cisse isn't scoring goals then he isn't really doing much else for Newcastle United. The fact is that Cisse is an out-and-out goalscorer - and an extremely good one at that - but there is very little else to his game. For a technical coach like Ian Cathro, that will certainly come as a frustration. It will be very difficult for Steve McClaren's backroom staff to develop Newcastle's game technically if Cisse is the man charged with leading the line. To use statistics to prove the point, last season Cisse scored 11 goals in just 22 games - a phenomenal return. But how did he perform in other areas? Well he provided just one assist for his teammates, he averaged a mere 0.3 key passes per game, he successfully completed a dribble on average just 0.4 times a match - and he also managed to miss control the ball on average almost twice every game. If Newcastle are going to move towards a quicker, more technical game then it seems unlikely that Cisse - who offers little to his side other than scoring - will be the club's main forward. Goals are a precious commodity, but if Newcastle can get someone who offers both scoring and an all-round game, then Cisse could be dispensable this summer.
