5 Reasons Why Andy Carroll’s Return Would Be Good For Newcastle (And 5 Why It Wouldn’t)

He will surely return one day - but do Newcastle really want him?

With uncertainty over Andy Carroll€™s place going forward in the Slaven Bilic era at West Ham United, the rumours connecting him back to Newcastle United seem more feasible than ever. Enner Valencia and Diafra Sakho both showed flashes last season to suggest that the club doesn€™t need its battering ram centre-forward and with the likes of Loic Remy and Charlie Austin - also a Newcastle target - linked to the Hammers, the east Londoners' record signing may soon be surplus to requirements. The fact that Bilic appears to favour flair players probably doesn€™t suit the giant Geordie, according to a recent profile in the Daily Mail. Meanwhile, Bilic€™s opposite number up north, Steve McClaren said on his first day on the job that Newcastle fans have "always had a number nine-style player and it€™d be great to get one of them in". The local lad is still looked upon favourably by the club despite his £35 million sale to Liverpool in January 2011 and there are those who feel that this would be an opportune moment for the Magpies to strike. Despite West Ham signing the forward for £15 million just two years ago, it is believed that the Geordies could secure Carroll for approximately £10 million. After plummeting down the league in the second half of the 2014-15 season, could the spring-heeled Carroll be the man to help Newcastle bounce back in 2015-16? Here's a look at the positives and negatives of splashing £10 million on the former No 9, and a verdict of whether the Magpies should bring the striker back to St James' Park or not.
