5 Reasons Why Andy Carroll’s Return Would Be Good For Newcastle (And 5 Why It Wouldn’t)

And The Verdict....

Don€™t Re- Sign Andy Carroll

Newcastle are expected to spend this summer but it would take a significant amount of resources to bring Carroll in. West Ham will want about £10-12 million for their club record signing and, with wages of approximately £80,000 per week, the Magpies would be relying on Carroll developing a sense of generosity as it seems unlikely he'll get that from Mike Ashley. Charlie Austin might cost the club a couple of million pounds more but with lower wage demands, it could net off over the course of the deal. Saido Berahino and Austin are preferable from an age and goalscoring perspective but the biggest issue for Carroll is how you persuade anyone to take such a significant risk when you've lost so much of your career to injury. Until potential suitors see Carroll playing week in, week out, he might have to wait in east London. With Bilic in charge, there is no guarantee he'll get that opportunity, however. At his current price, clubs - especially Newcastle United - can't mortgage the future on a guy who can't stay healthy. Unfortunately, it still seems like the conditions are not right for the return of this Local Hero unless West Ham (and Carroll) drastically drop their demands.
