5 Reasons Why Andy Carroll’s Return Would Be Good For Newcastle (And 5 Why It Wouldn’t)

4. Carroll Offers A Different Threat To Those Already Present

While Papiss Cisse, Ayoze Perez and Emmanuel Riviere all bring different benefits to the team (well, the assumption is that Riviere must benefit the team somehow...), all have proved somewhat lightweight for the style of football Newcastle play. When Yohan Cabaye left, so did Newcastle's ability to play fully through the midfield. To be polite, Newcastle play direct football - something that Andy Carroll specialises in. With a tall frame and a powerful leap, there are few in the Premier League who can cope with him in the air. What's more, during the 2014-15 season Carroll won the 11th highest-number of aerial duels in the Premier League - despite only featuring in 14 games. Again, his physical style may make him susceptible to some injuries, but if you can keep him fit and get the service to him then he could be a valuable weapon - just as he showed during his first stint on Tyneside.
