5 Reasons Why England Won't Win Euro 2012?

3. The Defence

The omission of veteran Rio Ferdinand from the 23 man squad was a strange decision which may yet prove to backfire on Roy Hodgson. The solidity and consistency he provided at the back for Manchester United over the course of last season helped them through a defensive injury crisis and almost won them the Premier League. He has been capped 81 times by England and has the experience England so badly need. England have also been beset by injuries lately. Gary Cahill and John Terry were forced off during last night€™s encounter with Belgium with injuries which have both required scans. Cahill required an X Ray scan over fears of a broken jaw after being shoved into Joe Hart, whilst fellow centre back John Terry was pulled off after pulling his hamstring. Joleon Lescott also finished the game bleeding heavily from a cut eye. It€™s exactly what England don€™t need right now ahead of their opener against France next week. There are signs of promise in young Manchester United centre back Phil Jones but at 20 he certainly doesn€™t have the experience fellow United centre back Rio Ferdinand could have provided.
