5 Reasons Why Liverpool Will Fall Short Of Winning The Premier League Once Again
1. Defensive Woes Remain Unsolved
It's almost impossible not to sound repetitive with this one, but much like the goalkeeping situation at Anfield, Jurgen Klopp has not addressed the club's need for a central defender.
All summer long there were rumours about the club landing Virgil Van Dijk from Southampton, but this move did not come to fruition, and Liverpool are left with the same back four which performed so poorly last season.
After being isolated over the course of the last year for dire performances, Alberto Moreno has found himself chucked back in at left back, while the central defensive pairing of Joel Matip and Dejan Lovren has hardly inspired so far. Add this to the injury to Nathaniel Clyne at right back, and Liverpool are already in something of a defensive crisis.
The Reds have already conceded eight goals this season, the joint second highest in the league, and their back-line simply collapsed against Man City last weekend. Given the club also conceded 42 goals last season, the most in the top four and only 11 fewer than relegated Middlesbrough, it's clear to see Liverpool have a big problem on their hands.
