5 Reasons Why Sunderland Were Right To Sack Paolo Di Canio

4. Relationship With Fans

Di Canio's appointment was met with mixed reactions from the Sunderland fans, some felt that his passion and will to succeed could help galvanise results whilst others believed his managerial methods that may have worked at lower league levels would be too controversial to work at a Premier League side. The 3-0 victory at rivals Newcastle which included Di Canio's exuberant celebrations certainly had the Sunderland faithful singing the Italian's name but the numbers backing him seems to have been on the decline this term as each defeat passes. The fact Di Canio had lost the fans was plain to see after the 3-0 defeat at West Brom, his final game in charge, with the manager going towards the away following after the final whistle making a bizarre chin up gesture. Sunderland fans could clearly be seen singing "you're getting sacked in the morning" and those who felt that way got their wish just over 24 hours later.
