5 Winners And 5 Losers From The Premier League Opening Weekend

5. Eric Dier

One appearance for Tottenham Hotspur and one goal. That's not a bad record at all - especially from a centre-back! Eric Dier joined Spurs this summer after arriving in a £4 million deal from Sporting Lisbon and made an immediate impact for his new team in his Premier League debut against West Ham United. With the game locked at nil-nil going into the 90th minute, and both sides reduced to ten men following red cards to Kyle Naughton and then James Collins, we looked destined for stalemate. That was, until new-boy Dier slunk through the Hammers' defence deep into stoppage time to tuck away Harry Kane's through ball. It was the perfect start for Tottenham and their new manager, Mauricio Pochettino - also making a debut of sorts as the Lilywhite's 10th manager in 12 years following his appointment from Southampton earlier this summer. Though his club weren't convincing at Upton Park, with West Ham unfortunate to lose, Dier ensured they made the best possible start to their Premier League campaign.
