5 Winners And 5 Losers From The Premier League Opening Weekend
2. Cesc Fabregas
Another Premier League debutant who excelled over the opening weekend was Cesc Fabregas. Of course, Fabregas is no stranger to England's topflight having spent eight years with Arsenal between 2003-11, but he appears to have lost none of his trademark creativity following his three-season stay at Barcelona. Signed from Barca this summer, the midfielder created two of his new side's three goals against Burnley to justify his reputation as the 'assist king'. Fabregas provided 98 Premier League assists during his first spell in England's top division and racked up two more at Turf Moor. His performances earned him special praise from the 'special one' Jose Mourinho, with the Blues boss hailing the Spaniard a "maestro" as he moved within touching distance of the Premier League's top five assist makers of all time. He said: "I agree completely with Cesc as man of the match, he controlled the tempo of the game and was responsible for the best phase of our play. He makes the right decisions, the right intensity of the game and he brings other people in the right direction. I am really happy with him."
