5 Winners And 5 Losers From The Premier League Opening Weekend
1. Man City - Team of the Week
While there were a scattering of good and bad individual performances throughout the Premier League's opening weekend, we thought we'd pay special homage to the club team who performed best throughout the opening round of fixtures, and our team of the week is Manchester City. The Citizens were the only side among the usual title pretenders to emerge from the first round of topflight matches unscathed following their 2-0 win over Newcastle United. Arsenal needed a last-gasp Aaron Ramsey goal to see off a determined Crystal Palace; Liverpool likewise scraped past Southampton; Manchester United got beat off Swansea and, for a short while, Chelsea slumped to a shock 1-0 deficit against Burnley. Everton meanwhile were held by Leicester and Spurs just about edged out West Ham, but City's win was never in doubt. The Citizen's victory over the Magpies had a feeling of routine to it with Newcastle failing to register a single shot on target and David Silva putting his side one up before half-time. City were mostly comfortable thereafter with the home side failing to land a glove on them before Sergio Aguero completed the scoring to put his side joint-top of the league. The Manchester club's title defence started in perfect fashion and unlike other top teams, there were no banana skins here.
