6 Biggest Shocks Of Wimbledon 2013 (So Far)

4. Brown Steals The Show

dustin brown Unfortunately, what Hewitt had not seen coming was the unorthodox style of Dustin Brown. The half-Jamaican, half-German (the country he now represents) dreadlocked player - whose Twitter profile is the wonderfully named "@dreddytennis" - had to make it through the qualifying tournament to make it to SW19 itself; he had never made it past the first round of Wimbledon before, but dispatched Guillermo Garcia Lopez to win only his second match at Grand Slam level. In his way was the undoubted crowd favourite Hewitt, fresh off that strong victory over Wawrinka. Immediately though, it seemed that Brown had an answer to everything Hewitt had in his arsenal. Destroying Hewitt's patented volley, Brown played some incredibly shots to win the first set, the classic ones including a spinning smash in mid-air, whilst he won the first set with a dive through the air to just send the ball back over the net after Hewitt seemed to have the point won. Whilst his game was not perfect by any means, Brown also proved to be able to hold the pressure, with Hewitt winning only one of ten break points in the game. Despite a rally in the third set tie-break, Hewitt couldn't hold on as a new star seemed to be born out on Court Two, with Brown putting his opponent away in 6-4, 6-4, 6-7, 6-2. His performance seems to make a mockery of the fact he is only ranked number 189 in the world.
