6 Main Card Predictions For UFC Fight Night: Edgar vs. Swanson

1. Frankie Edgar vs. Cub Swanson

Weight Class: Featherweight Edgar vs. Swanson is a fight that could easily be a title fight, except neither man currently holds the championship. Both men are capable of winning the title, and Edgar is, of course, a former title holder at lightweight. Which means that this happens to be one of the most exciting non-title headlining fights the UFC has put on in ages. Cub Swanson (21€“5) is currently on a six fight win streak in the UFC, including wins over Dennis Siver, Dustin Poirier, Jeremy Stephens, Charles Oliveira, and others. His only UFC loss came in his debut after the promotion took in the WEC, and that was against recent title challenger Ricardo Lamas. Swanson is a talented, athletic fighter with strong cardio, creative striking, and excellent fight intelligence. Frankie Edgar (17€“4€“1) is the former UFC lightweight champion who was the underdog in pretty much every fight he was in, based mainly on the fact that he was fighting at weight. Having dropped to featherweight, he's still relatively small for the division, but has more heart than any two fighters in the UFC - and a strong chin to boot. Mix in his striking, cardio, and footwork, and he's the prototypical Jersey fighter. Edgar has arguably faced better competition in his career due to the numerous title fights he has been in (B.J. Penn, Benson Henderson, Jose Aldo), but Swanson is on the rise, and is long removed from a WEC loss to Aldo. This will likely prove to be a classic, and even if you're not a huge fan of either combatant, it should be worth tuning in for. Expect a decision here - these guys are too close for anyone to really have a massive edge. Edgar has more experience in five round fights, but Swanson went twenty-five minutes in his last outing and didn't miss a beat. We're picking Edgar to stop Swanson's momentum, but it will be close.
