6 Reasons David Beckham's Olympic Snub Was Right

1. He's Just Not Good Enough Anymore

Charm and integrity don't win football matches. And neither does a player who is too old for the international set-up, and who is currently playing his club football in a comparatively inferior league offering 150% every game. Because that 150% isn't necessarily going to be as good as a younger player's 100%. Beckham should have been included if he was the best available player, and unfortunately for him, the opportunity to play in the Olympics came two years or so too late. It might have been a lot different if the rumoured move to Tottenham on loan had come about, but no matter what his form has been in the MLS this year, it is all relative, and that league is no more than Championship quality. The squad is built on merit, as opposed to sentimentality, and to suggest otherwise sets a dangerous precedent that continues the unnecessary devaluation of the entire association of football and the Olympics. What better way to make the British treat the event, and the football aspect of it seriously than to go out and take it seriously, and make a real effort to win Gold? What do you think? Do you think David Beckham's snub was a disgrace? Or do you agree with my own assessment? Let us know below.
