6 Ups & 4 Downs From Premier League 2019/20 Week 2

3. Ye Olde Simulation Argument (Already)

Aside from wanting to clear your own throat any time the man speaks, it can be tough to listen to Burnley chief Sean Dyche at times. The gravelly-voiced, staunchly defensive gaffer was not happy with several Arsenal players after watching his team lose 2-1 at the Emirates on Saturday lunch time.

During his post-match interview, Dyche brought up that old chestnut: Burnley's boss wanted to talk simulation.

Without singling out one individual Gunner, Dyche claimed that the Premier League's rule sheet allows for cheating "at least once" per game. Uh oh, here it comes. That inevitable flood of arguments pitting new-school thinking vs. old-school thinking is here, and it only took until week two of the new season for it to happen.

This is something the league could do without. Whilst there is merit to Dyche's complaints about diving (something does need to be done about it), his whinging isn't backed up by those in the Premier League board room, and it may never be properly policed.
