6 Ups & 4 Downs From Premier League 2019/20 Week 2

2. Adrian Comes Crashing Back Down To Earth

Much was made of the fact ex-West Ham goalkeeper Adrian went from free agent to UEFA Super Cup hero within one week. His smiling face and wild celebrations with fans in Istanbul upon saving Tammy Abraham's penalty was heart-warming to watch. This was one man proving himself to the entire world at the highest level.

Then, less than one week later, he was thumping the ball against the fortunate Danny Ings and watching the ball trickle helplessly by into his own net. Oops.

Hero to zero stories are nothing new to Liverpool keepers. Remember what happened to once-lauded Loris Karius when he had a nightmare in the 2018 Champions League Final? Adrian's exploits weren't quite on that level, but they are a reminder to everyone about the importance of currently-injured stopper Alisson to the Anfield cause.

He's 10x more comfortable playing out from the back than Adrian is. Though the former Hammer does have qualities and he can make great saves, he's not quite the ball-playing, assured master goalies like Alisson and City's Ederson are more often than not.
