60 Best Tottenham Hotspur Players In Premier League History

10. Scott Parker

Main Position: Central Midfielder. Time With Spurs: 2011-Present. Following a remarkable season with West Ham United, in which Parker was both relegated with the club and the winner of the Football Writers' Association Footballer of the Year award, Parker joined Spurs for £5m in August 2011. An England international, Parker has been a key component in shoring up Tottenham as a defensive unit. His tenacity and ability to break up opposition attacks is often overlooked, but his importance to the club has been absolute. Parker wins the ball and starts Tottenham's attacks and this kind of contribution to any team should not be underestimated. He was named as the club's Player of the Year at the end of his first season with them. Now 32 and yet to score for Spurs in over 60 appearances (including 50 in the league), Parker is rumoured to be up for sale. He will be sorely missed as he has become very popular with the fans and has captained the club on numerous occasions. He will be fondly remembered for setting up Aaron Lennon's winning goal in the March 2013 North London derby victory against Arsenal at White Hart Lane.

9. Rafael van der Vaart

Main Position: Attacking Midfielder. Time With Spurs: 2010-2012. "Na-na na-na na-na na-na na-na na, Rafa van der Vaart, van der Vaart, Rafa van der Vaart!" A product of the famous Ajax Amsterdam youth academy, the Dutchman was viewed with great affection by the Spurs fans and shared the same mutual view of them. Joining for a bargain fee of £8m from Real Madrid on the stroke of the deadline of the 2010 August transfer window, van der Vaart made an instant impact at White Hart Lane - scoring three goals in his first four Premier League matches and scoring one goal and assisting another in his first two Champions League matches for the club - and was awarded Goal.com's World Player of the Week just two months in to his Spurs career, as well as Premier League Player of the Month. Famously scoring twice against Tottenham's fierce rivals Arsenal, van der Vaart stayed at the club until August 31st of 2012, when he returned to former club Hamburg. However, he will always be fondly remembered for his performances in a Spurs shirt - helping them to 4th place in 2011-2012 (though, thanks to Chelsea winning the Champions League, this wasn't enough for Spurs to qualify for it) and starring in the 2010-2011 Champions League campaign. Overall, van der Vaart scored 28 goals in just over 70 competitive appearances for the club - highly impressive for an attacking midfielder.

8. Darren Anderton

Main Position: Right Winger. Time With Spurs: 1992-2004. A very underrated player and my personal favourite Spurs player of the Premier League era, England international Darren Anderton was one Tottenham's star performers for over a decade, throughout the whole of the 1990's an in to the the early 2000's. Making well over 300 appearances for the Lilywhites, 'Sicknote' (as he was known, due to his horrendous injury record) scored more than 50 goals for the club - a decent record for a winger. Having signed for £1.75m from Portsmouth, Anderton went on to win the 1999 League Cup with Spurs against Leicester City, and was a losing finalist in the same competition three years later against Blackburn Rovers. In his time at Spurs, he regularly attracted interest from Sir Alex Ferguson and Manchester United. Anderton left for Birmingham City in 2004 and went on to play for Wolverhampton Wanderers and AFC Bournemouth, before finally retiring in 2008.

7. Robbie Keane

Main Position: Striker. Time With Spurs: 2002-2008, 2009-2011. Scoring 94 league goals for Tottenham - and well over 100 in all competitions - Robbie Keane has been one of Tottenham's more reliable strikers in his two spells with the club and was part of the team that won the 2008 League Cup. He is Spurs' 10th highest scorer of all time. The Republic of Ireland's record goalscorer first signed from Leeds United for £7m in 2002, before departing for Liverpool - his boyhood team - for £20m in 2008. He made a swift return only six months later for £12m, after a disappointing stint at Anfield, and never really hit the heights of his previous spell at White Hart Lane. After losing his place in the team, he was loaned out to Celtic and West Ham United before permanently heading over the Atlantic to join David Beckham's Los Angeles Galaxy. He has returned to the Premier League on loan since then - at Aston Villa - but is currently back in L.A. performing admirably.

6. Luka Modri‡

Main Position: Central Midfielder. Time With Spurs: 2008-2012. The Croatian midfielder joined Spurs for £15.8m in 2008 from Dinamo Zagreb and went on to become their star player, making 127 league appearances for the club and playing a starring role in the team that qualified for, and excelled, in the 2010-11 Champions League. Modric won Tottenham's Club Player of the Year in 2010€“11 and began attracting the attention of some of Europe's biggest clubs. At the end of the 2011-12 season he announced his intention to leave and effectively forced his way out of the club, souring his time at White Hart Lane and his legacy with the fans. Real Madrid acquired his services for an outbound Spurs transfer record of £30m, in a deal which also saw the two clubs announce a commercial partnership, in August of 2012.
