Scoring in a Tyne-Wear derby for Newcastle United immediately places a player in club folklore - and that is exactly what has happened to Nikos Dabizas. The 70-cap Greece centre-back began his career at Pontioi Verias before moving to Olympiacos, and then a £2 million transfer to the Magpies followed in 1998. During six years on Tyneside, Dabizas played 130 times in the league and scored an impressive 11 goals - mainly during Sir Bobby Robson's spell in charge. His winning goal in the 1-0 victory at the Stadium of Light in February 2002 was Dabizas' highlight during his spell on Tyneside, but even without that the Greek international would still be remembered fondly.
After leaving for Leicester in January 2004, Dabizas was unable to prevent the Foxes sliding into the Championship as he played in the same side as Les Ferdinand that season. The Greek defender remained at the club for another year, making 51 league appearances and scoring once in all for the Foxes, before finishing his career at Larissa.
