Goalkeepers have always been known in football circles as a bit of a wacky lot, so it is no surprise to see a goalkeeper topping this list of bizarre football injuries.

Dave Beasant, who is famed for his penalty save in the FA Cup final against Liverpool in 1988, comes in with quite frankly one of the most ridiculous injuries in sporting history.

The big goalkeeper attempted to control a glass bottle of salad cream he had knocked with his bare foot when minding his own business at home. However, it turned out to be one of the worst decisions he would ever make in his career, as the bottle only served to rupture his ankle ligaments, sentencing Beasant to over two months on the sidelines.

While he might have had a top career and achieved legendary status in some quarters, this was certainly not one of his finest moments.
