7 Reasons Why Lebron James Opted Out Of His Miami Heat Contract
4. To Create The Sequel To "The Decision"
Why in the world would Lebron James want to relive The Decision from 2010? Well, for one, James looked like a total villain after that night. He didn't inform Cleveland, who he was with for seven years, that he was leaving until right before the show aired. He turned his decision to join the Heat, which took about three seconds to say, into a 75 minute special on ESPN. On the other hand, the advertising money made from that ESPN special was donated to a Boys and Girls Club of Greenwich, Connecticut. The special raised 2.5 million dollars for the charity. Thats a lot of money just to hear an NBA player announce what team he is signing with. James has made it known that looking back at it, he may have made his decision differently. However, perhaps it was worth 2.5 million dollars for a charity to become hated by so many. NBA fans have not criticized James as much for the decision since then. In fact, you could argue James made the right decision by joining the Heat, but how he did it wasnt completely ethical.
