7 Takeaways From UFC 225
3. Would A Whittaker Vs. Romero Trilogy Make Sense?
Would you want to see a third fight between these two?
If the first two fights are anything to go by, it would be a guaranteed war. Now that Whittaker has won both contests, questions would be asked about why the third fight would need to take place.
There is also the argument that after failing to make weight in his last two fights, should Romero move up to the Light Heavyweight division? The ‘Soldier of God’ is 41 years old and it is common knowledge that weight cuts get harder the older you get, and judging by his last two fights it is becoming increasingly more difficult for him to make the 185lb limit. The light heavyweight division has hit a bit of a standstill and Romero could be the man to liven things back up.
Whittaker posted a photo of an X-ray of his hand which showed a nasty break. That will sideline him for a couple of months, after which he will no doubt be looking to step back in the cage and defend his belt once again.
In a division which seems pretty dormant at the minute, a Whittaker vs. Romero III fight could well be the only fight that could be made in that division which would excite MMA fans.
