8 Frank Lampard Goals Chelsea Fans Will Never Forget

7. Chelsea 1 Manchester United 1, Luzhniki Stadium: May 21, 2008

On a cold and wet night in Moscow, Chelsea fell victim to a penalty shootout against one of their biggest rivals in Manchester United. It was a night that Blues fans will try hard to forget, following John Terry's slip and NIcholas Anelka saved spot kick that saw their rivals reign supreme as the champions of Europe. United went ahead after 26 minutes when Cristiano Ronaldo headed in a Wes Brown cross to give his side the lead and seemingly all of the momentum heading towards the end of the first half. With only minuets left before the break however, Chelsea found their equaliser with one of the most important goals in Lampard's entire career. A long distance shot from Michel Essien saw the ball deflect off both Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic, wrong-footing Edwin van der Sar in the goal and allowing Lampard to place the ball in the back of the net with ease. Despite levelling the game and forcing the match into extra time and penalties, it would turn out to be a miserable night for Lampard and his teammates in Russia's capital city, as they lost out on the elusive Champions League trophy they so desired, thanks to a penalty shootout. It would be four long years before he got the chance to rectify that loss, captaining Chelsea to Champions League victory against Bayern Munich in 2012. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fnlnb2Ixyag
