8 Bundesliga Sleeping Giants Who Could Topple Bayern Munich

6. Can Stuttgart Repeat Their 2007 Triumph?

Perhaps not a side everyone would call a sleeping giant, but Stuttgart have yet to win a competition since 2007. The dominance of Bayern Munich in recent history has had a knock on effect for other clubs, barring Borussia Dortmund. Stuttgart have five German titles to their name, with three of those coming in the Bundesliga era. Their 2007 league title featured some great names such as Timo Hildebrand, Markus Babbel, Thomas Hitzlsperger, Sami Khedira and Mario Gomez. Fans have had to wait even longer to reclaim there DFB-Pokal, which they last won in 1997. Notable players such as Franz Wohlfahrt, Marco Haber and Fredi Bobic played in their €™97 campaign whilst of the previous decade, players such as Alex Hleb, Cacau, Serdar Tasci and Kevin Kuranyi have lined up in the famous die Roten strip. Out of the past five years, Stuttgart have finished in the bottom half of the Bundesliga on four occasions, something that was unheard of within 2000-10, where they constantly challenged for a place in Europe. A poor start to the 2014-15 season saw Armin Veh resign in what was his second spell in charge, which eventually saw Huub Stevens returning to the club, saving Stuttgart from relegation. It€™s now Alexander Zorniger's task to get Stuttgart back into Europe, and with the signings of Mitchell Langerak, Przemys‚aw Tyto„, Emiliano Insúa, Lukas Rupp and Jan Kliment, things are starting to look on the up once again.
