8 Bundesliga Sleeping Giants Who Could Topple Bayern Munich

7. The Fall Of Hamburger SV

Sleeping giant, call it what you want. Hamburger SV has suffered a torrid time of late. Having played in the past two relegation play-offs, HSV somehow remain the only club never to be relegated from the Bundesliga since its formation. Winner of three Bundesliga titles and three DFB-Pokal trophies, HSV were a dominant force throughout Germany during the Kevin Keegan era. The famous Red Shorts won the European Cup in 1983, three years after being runners-up during Nottingham Forest€™s European triumph. Since Rafael van der Vaart€™s return to the club, HSV have struggled to pick up any real momentum. Conceding 75 goals during the 2013-14 season was unexpected from a Hamburg side who had been competing in the Champions League not too long ago. The 2014-15 season was the same story for die Rothosen €“ who despite managing to concede much less (50), finished the league€™s lowest scorers €“ finding the net on just 25 occasions. Bruno Labbadia pulled off the Great Escape for HSV and it will be interesting to see what the German does in a full season at the club €“ who won four times in eight matches since his return.
