3. Leeds United (1973/4)
Another team famed for it's dirtiness, the great shame about this Leeds side is that they were supremely talented, and should have been remembered as one of the teams of the 1970's in Britain. Sadly, their fondness for niggly fouls, cheating and outright thuggery has forever cemented not only the side, but the club in the national consciousness as 'Dirty Leeds'. When you think of Leeds in the 70's, you don't think of the two titles and two Fairs Cups, nor of the exploits of Johnny Giles. Fa cup wins are forgotten-the most abiding memory of Leeds at Wembley during this era is Billy Bremner provoking the usually mild Kevin Keegan into an on-pitch punch-up, the latter frustrated by Bremner's sly kicks and nips. Also fond of fisticuffs was Norman 'Bites Yer Legs' Hunter also disgraced himself during a European Cup Winners Cup Final by lashing out and generally being Norman 'Bites Yer Legs' Hunter. Infamously, Brian Clough took control when the Don Revie era ended and lined the players up on the training pitch on his first morning, telling them to throw their championship medals in the bin as they won them by cheating. Unsurprisingly, his reign lasted weeks rather than months. He had a point though, a Championship won by sly digs, nips, kicks and punches is a sullied prize indeed.
