Similar to Terry Butcher, Billy Davies is another manager who routinely gets mentioned whenever talk of Glasgow Rangers searching for or needing a new boss comes up. A self-confessed fan of the Teddy Bears, Davies has had a topsy turvy career South of the border, but did take Preston North End to the cusp of entering the English Premier League for the first time in 2005, only losing out in the Championship Playoff Final. The next season, Preston and Davies were at it again, this time getting knocked out in the Semi Finals of the Playoff tree, but upon joining Derby Country, Billy Davies would finally achieve what he had set out to do, taking The Rams to the Premiership promised land. Even then, in 2006, the English Championship was a far more competitive league than the top flight in Scotland, so a lot of people felt Davies could do an admirable job at Rangers. When Alex McLeish left the post of manager at Ibrox in 2006, Davies was linked, but the job went to a hot young French coach called Paul LeGuen instead, something which proved to be a disaster for Rangers. Billy Davies was once again linked to Rangers recently, and given that he's currently without a club after leaving Nottingham Forest, a lot of fans felt there were certainly worse choices.
