8 Managers Who Nearly Became Rangers Boss

3. Felix Magath

Felix Magath may have had a tumultuous time as boss of Fulham in 2014, but the German manager had experienced a lot of success in his native country prior to that, managing several clubs to Bundesliga titles and a run of honours. As a player, Magath won the German title on 3 different occasions with Hamburg in the late-70's and early-80's, also adding the European Cup to his trophy cabinet in 1983. As manager, the man would win trophies with the likes of Stuttgart, Bayern Munich and Wolfsburg, something which surely caught the eye of those in English football. Sadly for Felix, his run as Fulham manager was an outright disaster, and pretty much ruined his reputation in England. To date, Fulham remain his last club, but the German very nearly became manager of Rangers. At the very least, Magath was linked with the post. A shareholder at Ibrox under the previous board room regime, Felix Magath spoke regularly to the press about the need for Rangers to set up a scouting system once more and start being more proactive with identifying signing targets. Due to his links with the club, Magath was rumoured to be a candidate to become boss at the Gers. Considering his pedigree in Germany, there's nothing to suggest that he couldn't have been a success, although it's hard to ignore how truly spineless his Fulham team were.
