8 Most Overpaid Premier League Footballers Right Now
2. Phil Jagielka
Phil Jagielka began enjoying first team success with none other than Sheffield United, where he helped them in their goal for achieving top flight success in the 06/07 season.
He made 37 appearances that year, and scored four league goals which is a decent return for a defender.
After the decent year he had, Phil was snapped up by Everton where he spent 12 successful seasons and many considered him an irreplaceable part of the team. This was until 2019 when the Blades decided to bring Jagielka back to Bramall Lane and pay the successful defender £50k a week for his services.
This £50k a week salary is £20k more than the 2nd highest paid player Muhamed Besic, which, if Jagielka was putting in match winning performances each week you could argue was justified. However the defender has only featured in four Premier League games so far this season and usually only finds himself on the bench.
If Sheffield United are keen to pay so much for people to sit on the bench they know where to find me.
