8 Reasons Newcastle United Will Avoid Relegation

3. Not Many Players Going To The Euros

Newcastle could potentially have five players representing their country at Euro 2016 in France this summer. Realistically, they will only have two: Rob Elliot and Moussa Sissoko. The other three candidates are Paul Dummett, who may not have enough time to convince Wales boss Chris Coleman that he deserves a place in the first ever Wales squad to compete at a major tournament, and Jonjo Shelvey and Andros Townsend, who are highly unlikely to make Roy Hodgson's squad, despite previously receiving caps from the England manager. Holland's failure to qualify for Euro 2016 could actually be a bonus for Newcastle. Before the 2014 World Cup, injuries to Loic Remy and Mathieu Debuchy kept the French internationals out for longer than they should have done, but were both perfectly fit to play for Les Bleus in Brazil. In the final stretch of the season, Newcastle need every player giving 100% for the team, rather than worrying about their fitness heading into a major international tournament. This should mean that Georginio Wijnaldum and Daryl Janmaat have no excuses for not giving their all for the club as they have no plans this summer that could be put in jeopardy. Moussa Sissoko's performances may come in to question, but they have been in question for the past two seasons so there probably wont be much difference. There is always a worry that players lose motivation towards the end of the season when there is no international tournament awaiting them and they find themselves dreaming of a beach somewhere, but surely the need for Premier League survival will be enough to motivate the Newcastle players.
