If you were told Rob Elliot would be one of Newcastle's key players at the start of the season, you'd have laughed. When Tim Krul ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament on international duty, it seemed to be a crushing blow for Newcastle's season. However, through adversity, a star emerged. Elliot's performances between the sticks have been nothing short of remarkable, and he has made huge saves that have kept Newcastle in games and won them points. Most recently, his save from Sunderland's Patrick Van Aanholt, with Sunderland still leading 1-0 at the time, was arguably just as crucial as Mitrovic's header. Elliot was also cited as a key character in the Newcastle dressing room by previous manager Steve McClaren. Considering Elliot was the third choice goalkeeper on Tyneside in August, it has turned into the best season of his career and he will play an important role in keeping Newcastle in the Premier League.
