The Newcastle fans deserve better. They have had to put up with shambolic performances on the pitch and disastrous decisions off it for too long. Regardless however, the Toon Army still pack out every away game and cram almost 50,000 Geordies into St James' Park. The fans can help push the club over the line, just like they did last season. In that crucial relegation decider against West Ham last season, where Newcastle knew a win would preserve their Premier League status for another year, the atmosphere created by the fans was electric and gave the players that extra 10% to come out 2-0 winners. It may be a cliche, but the Newcastle fans can be the 12th man. In Benitez's first home game, the derby against Sunderland, the atmosphere was unlike what it had been in recent weeks under McClaren. St James' Park had found its voice again. When Aleksandar Mitrovic's header hit the back of the net, an eruption of noise could be heard throughout the city, and had there been more time remaining, the fans could have potentially helped the players score a winner. The Benitez factor combined with the passion of the fans can help guide Newcastle United to Premier League safety.
