9 Newcastle Players Who Are Fighting For Their Toon Futures

9) Haris Vuckic

Last seen making an appearance for the first team in the abysmal 1-0 FA Cup defeat at Leicester City in January, the Slovenian spent the second half of the season tormenting defences in Scotland with Rangers. Despite competing in the Scottish Championship, Vuckic netted eight times in 17 league appearances for the Ibrox club and was one of the best players in the division during his time there. Vuckic joined Newcastle in 2009 and has only made seven league appearances so the odds are stacked against him but, with his last loan spell so much more fruitful than his stints at Rotherham United and Cardiff City, it could be worth taking a look at him once more. Newcastle were reported to have beaten off Manchester United and AC Milan for the youngster when he arrived at the club. Still only 22, Vuckic could yet develop to become the attacking-midfield maestro he was expected to be - however, with Vuckic openly stating that he does not want to come back to Newcastle, it would appear he will follow the likes of Aaron Spear, Fabio Zambrela and Joan Edmundsson as highly-touted prospects who have failed to make the grade at St James' Park. Current likelihood of coming back: 1/10Recommendation: Even if it won't help his Newcastle career, Vuckic still needs to be playing at a higher level than the Scottish Championship. Technically proficient, the physical side of the game has been more troublesome to him so, while not suggesting he morph into a bodybuilder, adding some bulk will help him out if he wants to remain in British football. Despite previous loan spells falling flat, his time at Rangers has shown him to be a solid finisher and a man who could make a difference at a lower league level. If Vuckic is to make it back to the Premier League, the route will not be an easy one and it is a shame to see another potential prodigy come to nothing under Newcastle's guidance.
