9 Players Who Flourished After Leaving Everton

5. Joleon Lescott

Joleon Lescott joined Everton from Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2006 in a deal worth around £5 million and would go on to have a successful career at both Goodison Park and after it. During his time at Everton, Lescott established himself as a firm fan favourite with consistent performances and the occasional goal. His first season at the club saw him named as Player€™s Player of the Season. He had of course managed to start that season by scoring three goals in the first eight games, ending the campaign with ten goals. By 2009 his relationship at the club had began to sour following interest from Manchester City and a written transfer request and moved to City for a fee of around £24 million that summer. His first season at the club was a frustrating one as he failed to find his earlier Everton form and picked up a number of injuries. However, when manager Mark Hughes was replaced with Roberto Mancini he found himself as the Italians preferred centre back ahead of Kolo Touré. He was later a part of the side that qualified for the Champions League and won the FA Cup against Stoke City, ending the clubs 35 year wait for a trophy in the process. The following year he played 31 games in their title winning campaign, which Sergio Aguero notably won for them on the final day. He only featured 37 times in the next two years but finished as a League Cup winner in 2014.
