9 Predictions For UFC 178

1. Demitrious Johnson (C) vs. Chris Cariaso

Weight Class: Flyweight It's not really going out on a limb to predict a Mighty Mouse victory in this one. Demitrious Johnson has been a dominant champion at flyweight, the only belt holder the division has ever seen, and he's taking on the ninth ranked fighter at flyweight, Chris Cariaso, frankly because there's no one else on a solid win streak that Johnson hasn't already defeated once or twice. The real question here is whether Johnson (20-2-1), who eclipsed the two-year mark as champion earlier this month, will finish the fight, or take it to decision. Chris Cariaso (17-5) is a decent fighter but has been bumped into the title picture way too soon, and he's simply not at the same level as Mighty Mouse. As much as we shouldn't write off anyone's chances (see: Dillashaw vs. Barao), this is a heavily one-sided fight. Cariaso is on a three fight win streak, but his last bout was a split decision over Louis Smolka, who is practically unknown in the UFC, and now 1-1 in the promotion. Johnson, meanwhile, hasn't lost since October of 2011. We're going to gamble on this and say that Johnson picks up a submission, which he hasn't done in some time but is capable of. Any way you look at it, Johnson wins this.
