It seems almost impossible how a player could score three goals, including the time to get the ball back to the centre circle and kick off again, in the time Mane managed. That said, unbelievably he did it in a moment which will have been the highlight of his relatively short Southampton career. The quickfire treble summed up Aston VIlla's time under former Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood with the overwhelming feeling that they are too inconsistent. Despite the sacking of Paul Lambert and undoubted improvement since then, Sherwood must now work to get the best out of his squad on a regular basis if he is able to challenge higher up the table. Southampton, on the other hand, have kept alive their hopes of Europa League qualification, staying just one point behind sixth placed Tottenham, though if Arsenal win the FA Cup that will be good enough for a place in the preliminary rounds of the competition.
