9 Terrible Swansea City Signings That Utterly Failed

1. Alvaro Vazquez

The last on our list is the most recent terrible acquisition by the Swans: Alvaro Vazquez. With many of the players on the list, Vazquez had promise. This promise was backed up by the fact he was part of the Spain U21 team that won the U21 European Championships plus had scored important goals for both Espanyol and Getafe in La Liga. His time at the Liberty Stadium was less successful. As part of Michael Laudrup's Spanish invasion, Vazquez was the eighth Spaniard to join the Swans, overtaking that of even how many English players made up the squad (seven). Vazquez played second fiddle to Wilfried Bony and Michu but with Michu suffering from injury for most of the season, it was up to Vazquez to make the step up when Bony couldn't make the difference. The fact that Vazquez managed a grand total of zero goals in his twelve appearances at the club doesn't even give you the whole story. Chances were missed, positions weren't taken up, runs weren't made. How a player could have such a degradation in ability in such a short space of time is still unbeknownst to Swansea fans across the country, and probably to Michael Laudrup too.
