Alan Shearer Urges Newcastle To Make The Most Of Transfer Window

What we'd give for a £15 million striker in the Alan Shearer mould arriving at Newcastle this summer.

It's been 17 years since our record goalscorer was unveiled in front of thousands of fans at St James' Park this summer and he's urged the club to give supporters another reason to be excited by spending serious money in the transfer window.

Not since January 2013 have we made a permanent cash purchase and the flaws in our weak squad were brutally exposed during the second half of last season as we slipped from the cusp of European qualification to treading water in the top-half in the space of four months.

But after raking in £77 million in Premier League revenues we know there is money to spend and a frustrated Shearer wants to see a large chunk invested in new signings as opposed to the "one or two players per year" outlined by new Managing Director Lee Charnley.

€œI think everyone knows that they need to buy players,€ He told the Shields Gazette.

€œThat doesn€™t necessarily mean they will get them. But there have been two transfer windows without a permanent signing, and it can€™t be three.

€œThe fans, over the last four or five months, have had nothing to shout about." Without even taking into account the £20m harvested from Yohan Cabaye's sale, the club have a substantial budget available to refresh the squad and Shearer is merely echoing the current thoughts of every Magpies fan who are fed up with our economical approach to recruitment.
