In 2017 Wenger will be aged 67 when his contract runs out. You really have to wonder if he will still be up for the game: will the fire be there for a man approaching 70 having enormous stress every week? The average manager in the Premier League lasts for two seasons and by 2017 Arsene would have spent 21 years at Arsenal, which is an very rare achievement.

The time will eventually come for Wenger to call it a day - even Sir Alex Ferguson retired from Manchester United aged 71. Arsene believes he and the players can achieve more which is why he chose to stay on for three more years. The last thing he will need to do when that contract ends is help hand it over to a strong successor - in better fashion than Fergie managed.

Jurgen Klopp is the bookies favourite to replace Wenger at 6/1, and that would represent a very smart move.
