Arsenal 2-0 Marseille: Champions League Player Ratings

Marseille

Steve Mandanda: First touched the ball when picking it out of own net. Somehow saved from Ramsey and kept out a poor Ozil penalty. Later saved from German again. Beaten twice by Wilshere when exposed. Not his fault. 5/10. Kassim Abdallah: Deflected a Giroud shot wide. Got up and down the flank easily enough. Best of a bad bunch in defence. 5.5/10. Nicolas N'Koulou: Brought down Ramsey just outside, but penalty given. Booked. Hard to see what all the fuss is about as so vulnerable here. 4/10. Lucas Mendes: Sold himself badly when Wilshere beat him to score. Took huge chance when grabbing Giroud's shirt at an Arsenal free kick. Carved open and afforded no protection. 3.5/10. Jeremy Morel: Caught upfield for Wilshere's opener. Booked. Not a good evening's work from the left back. 3.5/10. Mario Lemina: Rather anonymous on full debut for Marseille. Subbed. 3/10. Alaixys Romao: Supposed to shield his back four, but could not handle the fluid and quick passing. Booked. 3/10. Gianelli Imbula: Talented youngster got caught in possession several times. Occasion seemed to get to him as he rushed a lot of passes. Subbed. 3/10. Jordan Ayew: Only showed occasional flashes in the absence of his more talented brother. Subbed. 3.5/10. Andre-Pierre Gignac: Headed early half chance wide, played in by Ayew, but Szczesny snuffed out the danger. Did very little else. Must work harder to earn a recall to French squad for World Cup next summer. 4/10. Saber Khalifa: Tunisian attacker did not impress in a wide berth. 3.5/10. Subs: Mathieu Valbuena: Some good touches in half an hour off the bench. Really should have started. Rating N/A. Florian Thauvin: Was the most likely to score for visitors in a 30 minute cameo off the bench. Had three efforts; missed the target with first, a header; Monreal cleared off the line with second and worked Szczesny low with third. Best Marseille player. 6/10. Benoit Cheyrou: Late cameo only. Rating N/A. Who was your man of the match? Have your say below.
