2. Encourage Thomas Vermaelen To Rekindle His Previous Form
Much of Arsenal success last season was built around Robin Van Persies talismanic performances as captain, with the Dutchman relishing the captains armband and producing countless match winning displays. Sadly, the same cannot be said for Thomas Vermaelen, who has struggled this year to perform at a similar level to that of previous seasons, such as the form in his first season with the club that saw him in the PFA team of the season. Whether the weight of the captaincy is to blame for Vermaelens dip in form is debatable, what is not up for debate is that Arsenals defensive stability depends a lot on their skippers performances. If they are to qualify for the Champions League then the Belgian must raise his game and be the leader the Gunners back four so desperately needs.
