Arsenal: 5 Reasons Gunners Will Get Back On Track Against Villa

4. Nacho Monreal

Arsene Wenger traditionally makes very few big January transfer window signings (Theo Walcott & Andrey Arshavin the exceptions that prove the rule) so when he does it€™s usually worth taking note of who he has bought. Nacho Monreal€™s recent arrival from Malaga continues Arsenal€™s tradition of finding and developing the best left backs in World football. In the same vein as Ashley Cole, and even Kenny Sansom before him, Monreal has already shown himself to be a very capable operator on the left side of the Arsenal back four. With Kieran Gibbs€™ thigh strain keeping him on the side lines for at least the next few weeks, the 26 year old Spaniard has an excellent opportunity to cement his place as an Arsenal first team regular. Although a member of the team that succumbed to Blackburn Rovers in the FA Cup last weekend, Monreal missed the match with Bayern due to being ineligible and as a result may feel slightly less battle weary. Prior to the Blackburn debacle the Arsenal team with Monreal as a part of it had won both of the previous two Premier League games including a backs to the wall defensive effort away win at Sunderland. For his Arsenal team to develop as he would like it to in the future, Wenger will be looking to the likes of Monreal to form a key part of it.
